In our endeavor to develp cutting-edge AI-technologies and apply them to areas with high societal and economic impact, we have been awarded a major grant grom the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. The project KI-Booster unites researchers with extensive expertise in machine learning and those with a proven track record in smart manufacturing and materials processing, aiming to elevate AI-guided manufacturing and materials processing to a new level. The project team comprises 6 professors, 1 postdoctoral researcher, and 6 PhD students. They aim to develop physics-informed transformer models and apply them to targeted domains such as novel batteries and magnets, innovations in photonic device manufacturing, and AI-controlled selective laser melting.

The following position is available to be filled at the earliest possible date at Aalen University of Applied Science in the Department of Computer Science:

Postdoctoral Researcher with a focus on machine learning (f/m/d) 24-08-02

- full-time 100% (39.5 h/week) -

Your tasks:
  • Take a leading role in shaping the project and mentoring the 6 PhD students
  • Develop innovative methods for the integration of domain knowledge into physics-informed trans-former models across various application area
  • Publish your research at high-ranking conferences and leading journals
  • Organize workshops and seminars with internal and external partners
  • Disseminate project results on both regional and (inter-)national levels
Your profile:
  • You hold an M.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field along with a PhD focused on Machine Learning.
  • Prior knowledge of transformer models is advantageous.
  • You are curious and passionate about science and driven to create a real-world impact with your work.
  • You are a strong team player, communicative, friendly, and have a positive “can do” attitude.
  • First experience in managing research projects and leading research teams is a plus.
  • You have a high proficiency in English; knowledge of German is highly welcome.

The position is limited until 31.10.2028 and is generally divisible.

The position will be classified in pay group EG 13 of the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L), provided that the legal and personal requirements are met.
